Wyoming Falls in their Season Opener

September 25, 2014 — The University of Wyoming hockey club started up their 2014-2015 season on the road in Greeley, Colo. taking on the Northern Colorado Bears. In recent years, the Cowboys and the Bears have established, and continue to build a strong rivalry. Thursday night’s game was big for the Cowboys, wanting revenge for last years 7-4 loss to UNC at the Regional tournament. Unfortunately, Wyoming walked away with a 7-1 loss to open up their season.

The Cowboys wish they could have that game back. They found themselves trailing by 4 goals in the first 5 minutes of the game. Goaltender Scott Romano faced 16 shots and 5 goals against before getting pulled shortly before the end of the 1st period. After getting a much needed pep talk by coach Dustin Snare, the Cowboys came out to play in the 2nd period. They were not able to find the back of the net until early in the 3rd period but they stepped up their defensive efforts. They only allowed two more goals to UNC making the final 7-1. The Cowboys had a rough opening in the 1st but started to get back in the swing of things in the 2nd and 3rd period. These two teams meet again on Oct. 25th where UNC will see a different Cowboys team than last time.

Wyoming (0-1) is back on the road Oct 3rd & 4th in Albuquerque, N.M. facing up against the New Mexico Lobos. The next time the Cowboys are in town will be Homecoming weekend Friday, Oct 17th to host their annual Alumni Game. Busy weekend for the Pokes as they also host Colorado Mesa that same weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
