October 7, 2013 — The University of Wyoming hockey club gets two wins over the weekend to start out the new season in Laramie, Wyo.
The Cowboys hosted Colorado Mesa University this past weekend capturing their first two wins of the season. Wyoming defeated the Mavericks 9-0 Friday night and 11-1 on Saturday night.
Freshman goaltender, Scott Romano (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded his first collegiate shutout having stopped 15 shots by Mesa. Noah Crank (Cheyenne, Wyo.) and Beau Jackson (Sundre, Alberta) both netted two goals for the Cowboys Friday night. Crank also recorded four assists for the Pokes and Jackson recorded one assist. Allen Morton (Casper, Wyo.), Ethan Crockett (Cheyenne, Wyo.), Colton Burkett (Casper, Wyo.), Jake Bates (Jackson, Wyo.), And Trenton Carr (Douglas, Wyo.) also scored goals for the Cowboys Friday night.
Saturday nights game was another phenomenal showing by the freshman tender, Scott Romano. Only letting one goal sneak by on 18 shots, he comes out of his first weekend at Wyoming with a .970 save percentage. Cody Quintal (Cheyenne, Wyo.), Allen Morton, and Daniel Everitt (Cheyenne, Wyo.) each scored two goals Saturday night for the Pokes. Beau Jackson, Roland Valadez (Longmont, Colo.), Ethan Crockett, Clayton Haworth (Calgary, Alberta), and Tyson Loundagin (Casper, Wyo.) also netted goals for the Cowboys. Noah Crank, Jake Bates, and Ben Bates (Jackson, Wyo.) Contributed a pair of assists toward the victory Saturday night.
Wyoming (2-0) has a break from league games as they head into homecoming weekend. The will hold their annual Alumni game on Friday night at 8:00pm at the Laramie Ice & Events Center here in town.
